I’m Still Here!

It’s been awhile…but I wanted you to know that I’m still here!

I apologize for those of you who have blogs that I normally follow and comment on pretty regularly. I’ve been really busy lately, and I hate that I’ve been falling so behind in the blogging world! But I’d probably better get used to falling behind on things once the baby comes along…

A lot of really exciting things have happened since I’ve been away! In no particular order:

  • I’ve nearly gotten through the spring semester! This week is really my last week of working on projects and finishing up take-home exams. Everything is due online on Easter weekend, and then I’ll be finished (until mid-May, at least).
  • Speaking of school…I managed to work out a compromise with one of the required summer classes in my program. I can’t remember if I blogged about this before, but there’s a six-week in-person class that I’m required to take as part of the Reading Specialist program, and it begins right when the baby is due. I was kind of freaking out about it, and going to Facebook for advice didn’t encourage me very much… but thankfully, I was able to find a solution. I found a comparable class that I can take online from another university (later in the fall), and I can have the credit for that class transferred to my transcript at Pitt. So it will all work out! Woohoo!
  • Probably our biggest news: Justin is changing jobs! It’s great news because he wasn’t very happy at his old job, and this job will bring him a raise in pay and better circumstances. Also…
  • Now that the baby is on the way, we’ve been thinking about where we would like to settle permanently, and we’ve decided that we definitely want to be a little closer to family. So, Justin has already worked out a transfer with his new company that he will be working for. He’s going to start at their office in Pittsburgh, but at the end of the summer (July/August), we’re going to move to Knoxville, Tennessee! He’ll be transferring to an office that they have in Knoxville, and we’ll be living in the same city as my parents! We’ve wanted to move to Tennessee for quite a while, so we are super excited that it is finally working out!

  • We officially have FIVE weeks left until the baby comes along! We’ve decided that he will remain nameless until he makes his appearance, by the way (something that my mom and sister are NOT happy about, haha)! Honestly, I wouldn’t mind if he ends up coming in April instead of waiting until May…I am getting uncomfortable and tired of being pregnant! But I’m trying to make the best of it…Party in the front
  • The last exciting thing happened just last week. For a long time, people had been asking me here and there, “When are you having your baby shower?” and I wasn’t sure what to say, because I wasn’t sure if I was having a shower. We only have a handful of good friends in Pittsburgh, and I hadn’t heard anything about anyone planning a shower for me, so I thought I probably wouldn’t have one. My sister and my mom decided to step in and remedy this, and they (and a bunch of other family members) traveled to Pittsburgh last weekend to throw me a baby shower! It turned out so nicely, and I was so grateful to even have a shower! My sister took a bunch of pictures all weekend long, so a separate update on the shower will be forthcoming…

For now, here are some pictures of our nursery room, which is really starting to come along! At first I was a little sad that our baby will have his first bedroom in this tiny little apartment where we aren’t allowed to paint the walls, and he’ll have to share his room with some of our office furniture. But we’ve been doing what we can to make it feel more nursery-ish, and the room is much better furnished now that we’ve had our baby shower!

Here's a close-up of the print on the wall. My friend Meg is a graphic designer, and she made this print especially for me! If you love it, it's available in her Etsy shop now: https://www.etsy.com/shop/PhigmentDesignStudio?ref=l2-shopheader-name

My parents brought me the cradle that I used when I was a baby. This is what our baby will use until we move to Tennessee and buy him a crib. :-)

My sister-in-law went way over the top in buying us a stroller AND a carseat (among other things)...and I still have a helium bear leftover from the shower who is managing to stay afloat...

Hey Rachel! I am so glad to see a post from you again. I was starting to worry πŸ˜‰ I am so glad to hear that everything is going to work out! And Knoxville is a really nice town πŸ™‚

    • It’s been hard to try to keep up with everything that I used to keep up with! Laundry, dishes, blogging, Facebook…it’s all been taking a back seat lately. (Even Candy Crush…haha! Justin’s been playing it on my behalf.) Whenever you take a trip to North Carolina now, we’ll be able to go meet up with you (and bring the baby)! πŸ˜€

  4. AHHHHHHHH!!!! I am SO excited that you guys are moving to TN! I mean, Knoxville is still far away from us, BUT we’ll be in East TN for a wedding in September so maybe just maybe we’ll be able to meet up for coffee while we’re in that area! πŸ™‚

It sounds like everything is really falling into place for you guys (with your school stuff and his work stuff) – so exciting! I can only imagine what a whirlwind summer this will be! I’ve missed hearing from you so I’m so glad you updated! I mean, the occasional Facebook post just isn’t enough! πŸ˜‰

    • It would be so exciting to meet up with you guys sometime! πŸ˜€ And you’ve talked up Memphis so much, I would like to go make a visit at some point!

  5. Lookin’ good!!!! YOU and the nursery!! I’m excited to hear that things are going well and that you’ll be moving closer to family soon. What relief that your school stuff has fallen into place. Keep takin’ care of yourself!
