The Highlight Reel

I realized the other day that I was blogging about a random Friday morning, but I haven’t posted anything about my life in like an entire month! So, in the spirit of Instagram (which I recently joined, because I finally have a phone capable of ‘gramming! Is that a word? And does that make me sound like the lame mom who thinks she’s the “cool mom” because she’s finally on Instagram?) I have an update for you, in pictures. And most of them have the Instagram filter on them, because…incidentally…I can’t figure out how to get rid of the filter on my phone’s camera now. (…Aaaand I just lost my “cool” with-it mom status. Maybe Instagram has a 1-800 number/helpline I could call? HA!) By the way, who else LOVES those commercials for Esurance featuring the old ladies trying to do new trendy things, like the lady who posts pictures to her “wall” by literally taping them to her living room wall, and the lady who is playing Candy Crush by literally taking a hammer to a bunch of peppermints on her kitchen table? “That’s not how that works!” I love it–cracks me up every time. But I digress

Let’s take a look at what’s been going on for the past month or so in the highlight reel:

First things first...we closed on our house! We never thought we would be closing in OCTOBER (sheesh!), but we're just glad that it's all finally finished and official. Here is our proud new homeowner pic, with Justin holding up the keys to the front door. (Filter free because this was pre-Instagram.)

Baby Jake is five months old now! He's getting so big!

It took a while, but our living room is finally live-able! And look--we have built-in bookshelves! LOVE! When I was growing up, my bedroom had an entire wall that was built-in bookshelves--I miss it!

Our front door is Halloween ready! We had the chance to meet one of our neighbors, and she warned us that the trick-or-treaters are pretty intense in our neighborhood! I'm excited! We went to the store and bought a few jumbo bags of Kit Kat bars...bring it on!

Speaking of Halloween...this little pumpkin is ready! He thoroughly enjoyed his first visit to the pumpkin patch.

But back to the house...I am in LOVE with my kitchen curtains. What do you think?

But back to the house…I am in LOVE with my kitchen curtains. What do you think? Justin wanted to put VERTICAL BLINDS over the giant window/door to the back porch. Because we’re living in 1982. HA! And that’s why I’m in charge of the décor…

I'm also super excited about these brand new stainless steel appliances. We really feel like we've arrived now that we have an automatic in-door icemaker. Justin keeps making a display of putting ice in his glass and sighing contentedly (even if he doesn't really need ice).

Another perk of homeownership...watching my man mow the lawn. ;-)

Now that we're moved in, we were finally able to get Jakey a REAL big boy crib. He's only slept in a cradle and pack-n-play up to this point, poor guy. He seems to be liking it so far!

The only downside is that he has more room for his crazy acrobatics in his new bed. That boy is going to be crawling any day now!

A random shot of me and my boo (there I go--cool mom'in it again!) from Instagram. Followers beware--pretty much every picture I upload will be of my kid. :-P

And that’s pretty much what’s been happening lately! I keep waiting for things to slow down–it’s been a busy month! I’ll leave you with a short video of who else–Jake the rockstar–eating rice cereal off of a spoon for the very first time!
